Superintendent's Message
Dr. Fullwood

A Message from the Superintendent, Dr. Jezelle Fullwood

Dear EUSD students, parents, and community members,

As our teachers return and the fall semester is underway, one does not have to look far to realize that the 2024-2025 school year has begun. While I hope you all had an enjoyable summer, the start of a new school year is without a doubt one of the most enjoyable times of the year for students, parents, and the community.
My hope is that you are looking forward to the start of school and the chance to work together to make 2024-2025 a great year for all with our school district.

As we begin this new school year, we have so much to celebrate. We have new administration and teachers the district office and a few of our school sites and all of our staff both new and seasoned are excited to be here to work with your children and I cannot wait to see the amazing things our students and staff achieve in the very near future.

We are also beginning the year with major facility upgrades at several of our schools. From painting, new roofs, new windows and colorful playground, the efforts of our maintenance staff in making these improvements should impact student success for many years to come. Improvements made to our schools during the summer should be a source of pride for our entire community.

We have big goals this year. Attendance is at the forefront of our work this year. We have dedicated staff and a laser-like focus on ensuring that students are in school, on time and ready to learn. In addition, the safety of our students and staff will be our top priority for the upcoming school year. I applaud the efforts of our staff and community in this area will maintain the focus that we have had in terms of safety over the past few years. Do not ever underestimate the impact of parent and community efforts in maintaining the safety of our students and staff, as well.

While many schools across our country make decisions based on what is best for adults, I believe our system focuses on students first. I am so proud of our staff for this and hope that our students and parents agree that the needs of students come first.

Whether you are starting your first year with our system or have been with us for years, I hope that you realize that Eastside Union Schools is a wonderful place for students and a great place to work as well. Our people are what makes this system special and whether they teach our students, drive a bus, clean our facilities, or prepare food for our students, I hope you will join me in letting them know they are appreciated. As a teacher and principal, I saw that when students knew I cared about them and maintained high expectations for them, they would strive to do their best. As a superintendent, I want our students and staff to do the same as I also have high expectations for myself and strive daily to ensure that those expectations are met.

In closing, I hope that we can maintain the excitement of a new school year throughout the year and that our students, staff, and parents can do the same. I hope that you agree that Eastside Union School District is a great place for students and a place where they feel safe and can grow academically. As I shared earlier, I look forward to the great things that our students and staff will accomplish in 2024-2025!

Thank you for your continued support of Eastside USD!

Backpack Distribution
A Successful Backpack Distribution at EUSD
On August 10th, EUSD successfully distributed over 700 backpacks filled with school supplies during our annual Backpack Distribution event. The event was made possible thanks to the generous support of Baby2Baby and the incredible efforts of our dedicated volunteers.

The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by our community have set a positive tone for the upcoming school year. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone involved and wish all our students and teachers an exciting and successful school year!

A Positive Start to the School Year at Eastside Elementary
Eastside Elementary students kicked off the school year on a high note, thanks to the Kids In Need Foundation and Toyota of Lancaster. These two organizations came together to provide 400 backpacks filled with school supplies for our students.

Representatives from both organizations visited classrooms to personally deliver the backpacks, taking the time to engage with students and share the importance of positive affirmations like "I am brave," "I am smart," and "I am kind." This event not only provided students with supplies they need for the school year, but also fostered a positive and empowering mindset as they embark on their educational journey.

EUSD extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Kids In Need Foundation and Toyota of Lancaster for their generous support and for making such a meaningful impact on the start of our students' school year.

Exciting School Improvements: What’s Happening in Eastside Union School District
The Support Services Committee at Eastside Union School District has been hard at work on a variety of projects designed to enhance the school experience for all students. Here’s a look at some of the current and upcoming initiatives making a positive impact in our district:
Support Services Projects
Child Nutrition & Transportation - The committee has been busy with several important projects. Right now, new point of sale tablets are being introduced at all school sites, the Eastside Elementary kitchen is in the process of being renovated, and a new outdoor freezer is being installed at Cole Middle School. Looking to the future, we’ve secured a grant to install energy-efficient commercial dishwashers, and we’re planning to introduce sustainable practices like gardening and waste sorting to teach students about the food cycle. We’re also excited to launch a junior environmentalist project at Columbia Elementary. Additionally, school buses are getting upgraded cameras and routing systems, and we’re providing training on operating electric buses with new dual chargers for efficient use.
IT Projects

Information Technology - The ongoing projects in Information Technology include upgrading technology across our schools with new charging stations, laptops, tablets, and enhanced security systems for transportation. We’re also planning to improve the technology infrastructure at all sites to boost functionality and security for everyone.
Maintenance and Operations Projects

Maintenance & Operations - The Maintenance & Operations team has been making significant progress too. Recent upgrades have been completed at Cole Middle School and Tierra Bonita, alongside important repairs and replacements to improve school buildings and systems. They have also enhanced outdoor spaces by updating playground equipment and improving landscaping to create more welcoming environments for our students. Additionally, energy-efficient lighting systems have been installed in several classrooms to provide better learning conditions while reducing utility costs. Looking ahead, the team is preparing for restroom remodels, building repairs, and system replacements at various schools throughout the district.

We are incredibly proud of the progress being made and remain dedicated to creating a safe, efficient, and enriching learning environment for all students. A big thank you to the Support Services Committee for their tireless dedication and hard work. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting projects!
Attendance Matters
Attendance Matters

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
EUSD is committed to ensuring every student has the best chance to succeed, and regular school attendance is key. Did you know that missing just 2 days a month can add up to 10% of the school year? This can cause students to fall behind academically.

Let’s work together to avoid unnecessary absences and ensure your child attends school regularly. Every day counts!

Attendance tips for parents

Attendance Tips for Parents
  1. Establish a Routine: Set a consistent bedtime and morning routine to ensure your child is well-rested and prepared for school each day.
  2. Prepare the Night Before: Organize clothes and pack backpacks the evening before to reduce morning stress.
  3. Prioritize Health: Keep your child up-to-date with vaccinations and reinforce good hygiene practices to help prevent illness.
  4. Have a Backup Plan: Life happens! Plan ahead by arranging backup transportation with family, neighbors, or friends to ensure your child gets to school on time.
  5. Schedule Smart: Try to arrange medical appointments and vacations outside of school hours to minimize absences.
  6. Talk About School: If your child seems anxious about school, talk to their teacher or school counselor. A little support can go a long way in making them feel comfortable and excited to learn.
