As we step into the month of September, I want to extend a warm welcome back to all of our students and families. I hope the new school year is off to a strong and positive start for everyone. September is a special month in our school community as we observe Attendance Awareness Month. Daily attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. When students are present and engaged in school every day, they build strong academic foundations, develop meaningful relationships, and stay on track for future opportunities. This month, we encourage families to partner with us in building strong attendance habits—every day counts! We want all students in school, on time, and ready to learn! We also take time in September to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th to October 15th. This is a time to recognize and honor the rich cultures, contributions, and histories of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Across our schools, we’ll be highlighting the stories, voices, and achievements that have helped shape our nation and enrich our communities.
Together, let’s make this a month of learning, celebration, and strong connections. Thank you for being a vital part of our school community.
Warm regards,
Dr. Jezelle Fullwood
Superintendent

Eastside Union School District welcomed students back on August 11, and the first few weeks have been about settling into new classrooms, routines, and expectations. Students and staff are finding their rhythm, building connections, and focusing on the habits that lead to success.
With the foundation now in place, EUSD is ready for a year filled with learning, growth, and opportunity. Thank you to our families, staff, and community for supporting a smooth transition into the 2025–26 school year. Together, we look forward to a school year filled with growth and joyful learning.

Eastside Union School District continues to advance improvements funded by Bond Measure ES.
- Tierra Bonita Elementary received fresh paint and beautification upgrades, making the campus more welcoming.
- Eastside Elementary is receiving campus improvements, including a new kitchen, designed to enhance learning spaces and support student wellness.
- Shade Structures are being installed at Columbia, Eastside, and Enterprise Elementary Schools. These new additions will protect our children from excessive sun exposure and heat, creating cooler, more comfortable play areas and reducing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
These projects reflect EUSD’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, modern, and inspiring campuses.

Eastside Union School District has launched a Five-Year Strategic Arts Education Plan that sets a clear vision for arts engagement through 2030.
The plan emphasizes that by the end of the decade, EUSD’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) programs will include:
- Accessible and sustainable resources.
- Comprehensive and purposeful programming.
- Engaging field trips and experiential learning.
- Strong community partnerships.
- Dynamic arts showcases and interactive workshops
To achieve this vision, the plan identifies three strategic directions:
- Build a strong infrastructure for the arts, including leadership, communication protocols, and equitable scheduling.
- Invest sustainably in arts education, with resources, spaces, and teacher support.
- Engage the community in the arts, through events, showcases, and opportunities for student and family participation
EUSD is committed to providing every student with high-quality arts education that fosters creativity, collaboration, and wellness.

Congratulations to Martin from Columbia Elementary School, the winner of this year’s EUSD Summer Reading Challenge! He spent his summer reading and showed great commitment to building his skills.
The challenge helps students stay engaged in reading outside of the classroom and continue growing as learners. We are proud of Martin’s effort and encourage all students to keep reading throughout the year.

EUSD is committed to giving every student the best opportunity to learn and grow, and regular attendance is a key part of success. Missing even a few days can add up quickly, causing students to lose valuable learning time and fall behind academically.
If your child will be out for more than one day, please talk with their teacher and school administration about independent study options. This helps ensure your child stays on track and does not lose days of attendance.
Let’s work together to build strong attendance habits and make every day count.
|
- Set a Routine: Establish regular bedtimes and morning schedules so students are ready to learn each
day.
- Plan Ahead: Lay out clothes, pack lunches, and prepare backpacks the night before to make mornings easier.
- Stay Healthy: Keep up with checkups and reinforce good hygiene to reduce illness-related absences.
- Have a Backup Plan: Arrange alternate transportation with family, neighbors, or friends in case of unexpected changes.
- Schedule Smart: Whenever possible, book appointments and trips outside of school hours.
- Ask for Support: If your child is worried or reluctant about school, connect with their teacher or counselor. Support can make a big difference.
